The New Patriotic Party (NPPCouncil )’s of Elders has given notice that it will meet with the president in response to growing calls for the resignation of Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta. According to Kwadwo Mpianim, a member of the Council of Elders and a former chief of staff in the Kufuor administration, the council met and decided to arrange a meeting between the members and the president to discuss the best course of action in light of the internal clamor to have the finance minister removed.
The party’s elders have discussed the matter and now want to meet with the president to determine how to address the ongoing demands that the finance minister is fired. According to him, the council must first meet with the president before deciding on the subject. A total of 98 lawmakers from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) renewed their call for Mr. Ofori-execution. Atta’s.
The MPs have reversed course and are calling for the immediate dismissal of Ofori-Atta after agreeing to the President’s request to give the Minister permission to deliver the budget and finishing the International Monetary Fund’s negotiations (IMF). 98 of these MPs from the ruling party claim that they will boycott the budget presentation the following week if the President does not act swiftly on their demands.
Ofori-position Atta’s in the government has allegedly grown untenable, which is the reason behind the new call for his resignation, claims Andy Appiah-Kubi, the Asante Akyem North MP who also serves as the group’s spokesperson. After a meeting with President Nana Akufo-Addo, the group previously softened its demand, leading to his response.
On JoyNews’ PM Express, Appiah-Kubi stated, “We’ve returned to (our call for the President to remove him now) and as a result, should the budget be submitted under the Finance Minister’s stamp, we’ll not participate because, in our opinion, we’re never going to do business with him.
Furthermore, if we aren’t going to work with him, he won’t take part in any proceedings, from the Presidency to the House. He said, ‘The only way the President would get them to engage in the budget presentation and appropriation is if someone else from the administration is nominated to present the budget. We will not participate in debates too.’
