While investigations into the death of Ifeanyi Adeleke, son of famous singer Davido, continue, Lagos police have released six arrested suspects while detaining two.
According to preliminary reports, the three-year-old drowned in his father’s swimming pool in Banana Island, Lagos, and was submerged for an unspecified period of time before being discovered.
Following the tragic incident, police detained eight domestic staff members of the singer for questioning on Tuesday, including the late Ifeanyi’s nanny and cook.
According to police sources, they were not arrested but were questioned on the charge of criminal negligence.
On Wednesday, a high-ranking police officer who is closely following the case provided Premium Times with an update on the ongoing investigation.
According to the officer, six of the eight people arrested in connection with the case have been released, while two remain in police custody.
He claims that the two are assisting the police in their investigation. His nanny and cook are the two people.
Investigation is still ongoing.
“This is an ongoing investigation, so I can’t say much about the case,” the officer explained.
I can tell you, however, that we have released six suspects and are still holding two; the nanny and one other person.”
He noticed they were the last people to see him. He also stated that the next step in the investigation will be an autopsy.
“We will then perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.” This would help our investigation even more,” he added.
Grief
Friends and fans of the singer and his fiancee, Chioma Rowland, also known as Chef Chi, were shocked to learn of the late Ifeanyi’s death on Monday night.
So far, Davido and Chef Chi have remained silent on social media as they deal with the tragic event.
According to the findings, the late Ifeanyi’s Instagram account, @davidifeanyiadeleke, has been deactivated.
His parents started the Instagram account when he turned three on October 20. The account had nearly 80,000 followers.
Background
According to reports, the late Ifeanyi was underwater for an unspecified amount of time before being discovered.
He was reportedly rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Late Monday, actress Eniola Badmus shared the sad news of the singer’s son’s death on social media. She later took down the post.
The police spokesperson in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyi, told PREMIUM TIMES on Tuesday morning that some of the singer’s aides and staff had been arrested.
“Eight of them (workers) have been brought in for questioning,” he said.
He didn’t reveal the location because he was afraid people would storm the station.
Ifeanyi was the first child of singer Davido and his lover Chioma. He is also Davido’s third child, as the singer has three other children from three different women, I made, Hailey, and Davidson.
He was born on October 20, 2019, in London, England. His third birthday was celebrated two weeks before his death with great fanfare.
