The manager of Barcelona, Xavi, has spoken out about the private messages he received after Barcelona’s loss to Real Madrid.
Xavi saw his team lose despite being somewhat eager for the weekend top-of-the-table match. Despite Ferran Torres’ consolation, Karim Benzema, Federico Valverde, and Rodrygo all scored goals to end the game.
The Spaniard remarked after the loss: “I have a cell phone that looks like a relative has died, with all the messages of encouragement I’m receiving.”
As they drew with Inter just days before, all but sealing their elimination from the Champions League, the defeat brought to an end a difficult week for both the club and the manager.
As his team hosts Villarreal on Thursday night, the Barca manager at least has the chance to recover and alter the tone of those signals.
