A rapper from Los Angeles who appeared in the 2018 film “SuperFly” was sentenced Monday to 50 years to life in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting seven people, three of whom were minors.
According to City News Service, Kaalan Walker, 27, was also sentenced to register as a lifetime sex offender for a series of crimes dating back to 2013.
On April 18, a Van Nuys jury found the performer guilty of three counts of forced rape, two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, two counts of rape of an intoxicated victim, and one act of assault with the purpose to commit oral copulation.
According to City News Service, Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Wallace feels Walker is a “true predator” for his assaults on young women and teenagers between 2013 and 2018.
Walker found his victims on Instagram and Twitter, generally aspiring models and actresses, and lured them to places by claiming to have booked them for photo shoots and music video productions that never transpired.
Instead, authorities claim that the rapper raped and attacked the ladies and underage girls.
“When they said ‘Stop,’ he didn’t care,” Deputy District Attorney Yasmin Fardghassemi told Walker’s jury during the March trial, according to the news service.
Walker’s attorney said that he did not coerce the women and girls and that they were seeking retaliation for the false promises he made about music shoots and opportunities to meet his renowned and well-connected pals.
The rapper’s career has been damaged, and he has lived a “living nightmare” as a result of the claims he was eventually convicted of, according to his lawyer, Andrew Flier. Walker, who co-starred with Halle Berry and Daniel Craig in the 2017 picture “Kings,” was arrested in September 2018 and released on bond. He was arrested again after being found guilty.
