Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s silence on Ghana’s present cost of living and economic issues.
He said that Dr. Bawumia, the chairman of the government’s Economic Management Team and lauded by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as an “economic messiah,” has gone AWOL as the country’s cost of living continues to rise.
Sammy Gyamfi stated on Twitter that a gallon of diesel costs GHS72, while the dollar costs GHS12.5. The cost of living continues to rise, but the braggadocios speaker and chairman of the EMT @MBawumia (Dr. Bawumia), who was formerly presented as the solution to all our economic ills, has gone missing.
Currently, petrol costs in Ghana have risen to about GH16 per litre at some filling stations.
Total Energies, a significant oil marketing company, sells diesel for GH15.99 per litre and petrol for GH13.10 per litre.
Meanwhile, as the country’s inflation rate continues to rise, Ghanaians will pay more for products and services.
The September 2022 inflation rate has risen to 37.2 percent from 33.9 percent in August 2022.
Inflation in food was 37.8%, while inflation in non-food was 36.8%.
Inflation for locally produced goods was 35.8%, while it was 40.7% for imported goods.
