According to the BBC, Kwasi Alfred Addo Kwarteng, a British Conservative Party politician of Ghanaian heritage who was appointed Minister of Finance in the United Kingdom, has been fired.
He was fired amid anticipation that British Prime Minister Liz Truss will reverse her stance on elements of the mini-budget.
Kwarteng is the UK’s second-shortest-serving chancellor in history.
After cutting short a meeting with international finance ministers in Washington DC, Kwarteng flew back to the UK this morning for urgent discussions with Truss.
Prior to becoming Finance Minister, Kwarteng was Secretary of State in the Department of Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy.
Kwarteng was born in May 1975 in Waltham Forest, East London, to Ghanaian parents who had been in the UK for a decade.
He formerly served as the department’s Minister of State. He has been the MP for Spelthorne in Surrey, South-East England, since 2010
