In advance of the film’s anticipated September 16 release, Sony has unveiled the official trailer.
The dramatic film starring Viola Davis and based on the actual Dahomey female warriors promises some intense action in its tantalizing new teaser.
Following the release of the trailer, Twitter replies show that audiences are excited about yet another black-led production.
The epic drama, written by Dana Steven and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Old Guard), tells the tale of the historical Agojie (also known as Amazons), a legion of female warriors who, in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, defended the potent West African kingdom of Dahomey in the location of modern-day Benin Republic
Along with Davis, the cast also includes Lashana Lynch, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Jordan Bolger, Angelique Kidjo, Thuso Mbedu, and Sheila Atim.
Jimmy Odukoya, an actor from Nigeria, also appears in the movie.
