A cathedral that is thought to be a holy building for God has been plagued by allegations of corruption, money laundering, theft, lying, and fabricating stories.
Many people believed it would not come to the point where the government would be using taxpayer money illegally to sponsor something unofficial in 2018 when President Akufo Addo announced that he would fulfill a personal promise he made to God by building a cathedral in gratitude for helping him win the election in 2016. Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta stated at the time that the cathedral would cost $100 million, including tearing down houses that had been built and housing judges. Later, the cathedral’s board of trustees estimated that building an identical cathedral in 2019 would cost $200 million.
However, Ghanaians were informed in 2020 that the cathedral would now cost 350 million dollars, and some social critics, like Bright Simons, have suggested that the true cost of the cathedral may be close to 400 million dollars. A cathedral that is thought to be a holy building for God has been plagued by allegations of corruption, money laundering, theft, lying, and fabricating stories.
Once Ghanaians questioned the project’s source of funding, the government and its spokespeople, including some renowned preachers like Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, led them to believe that the cathedral wouldn’t ever be a financial burden on the taxpayer but would instead be a privately funded endeavor.
These rumors are total fabrications since the Akufo Addo administration was busted stealing public funds to construct a project on which Ghanaians had never been consulted. Sir David Adjaye, a well-known architect, has been at the center of all the controversy surrounding the National Cathedral. He has been the subject of many of these upsetting debates.
His organization Adjaye and his partner are the front driving organization accountable for building the house of prayer. From the plan to screening for the development organization and the organization intended to assemble the building. Up until this point, what is in the public space shows Sir. David Adjaye’s organization is the very organization that did the plan, checked his organization as the favored organization to construct, and would be the organization to fabricate the church.
These convoluted procedures are a disgrace to Ghana’s procurement regulations. According to a document from the Public Procurement Authority and Jubilee House, Sir David Adjaye and his business have already received a payment of $23.7 million. The North Tongu Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who has been outspoken about these terrible cathedral concerns, has produced some documents to demonstrate that money has been paid to David Adjaye and his firm.
In secret, a structure built to exalt God and his mercies were destroyed. Even at this trying time for Ghana, where many people are struggling to even afford a meal a day, the public has been incensed by Akufo Addo’s attempt to steal money from the taxpayers. The fact that the individual the government claims to have paid a lot of money to has remained silent on the issue is very alarming. To clear his character and the name of his company and the work they have done over the years in the world, Sir. David Adjaye, who has worked hard to establish a reputation for himself around the world, needs to comment on this dirty cathedral transaction.
Realizing that political Power is dependent upon future developments in Ghana, it would do Sir. David Adjaye has a great deal of good on the off chance that he chomps the shots now and educates Ghanaians and the world on the genuine story regarding his contribution to the structure of the National Cathedral.
